‘Baby assault’ Leeds suspect given police bail

A man arrested on suspicion of assaulting a baby in Leeds has been released on bail by police.

The man, in his 20s, was held following reports of an incident on Bellbrooke Grove in Harehills.

The West Yorkshire Police helicopter had been used to provide assistance to officers on the ground following calls to the emergency services at 9pm on Monday.

The man was arrested after the helicopter crew used thermal imaging to track him.

Police have confirmed the child, thought to be a few months old, sustained “superficial injuries” in the alleged incident.

A police cordon was initially put in place on Bellbrooke Grove while forensics experts carried out investigations at the property.

A spokeswoman said: “The arrested man has been released on bail pending further enquiries.”
