Barnsley pubgoer suffers catalogue of injuries in random attack

A 55-year-old man was left with a dislocated finger and cuts and bruises following an altercation at a pub in Barnsley.

The man was inside the Miners Rest pub on Palm Street with his wife and a group of friends when an unknown man is reported to have verbally abused one of the group.

The stranger then punched the man and more people became involved as the incident continued outside the premises.

The victim was further assaulted and was taken to hospital to have his injuries treated.

South Yorkshire Police said they had arrested a 52-year-old man and 20-year-old woman on suspicion of affray. Both suspects have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Witnesses to the assault, which occurred at around 7.30pm on Friday 15 January, is asked to call the force on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 954 of 15 January 2016.
