Batley: Fake postman and gang hold family prisoners in their home

POLICE today released an e-fit picture of a raider who posed as a postman to gain entry to a family home in Batley.

He was one of seven men, most wearing masks, who called at the house on Track Road at lunchtime on Tuesday August 9.

They broke in after the bogus postman told one of the nine family members in the house that they had to sign for a parcel.

Once inside, the suspects threatened the victims, demanding money.

One of the suspects was armed with a Taser-like device, which was not used during the robbery.

The gang forced the family members into the cellar of the house where they were locked while the suspects searched the property. They left with cash and jewellery and drove off in a small white van.

Police said three were white, three black and one Asian.

The suspect who posed as the postman was white, around six feet tall, of medium build and with short blond hair and stubble. He was in his late twenties and wore a red Royal Mail jacket.

None of the victims were injured in the robbery, but were left traumatised by the incident.

Witnesses should call 01924 431012 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
