Biker dies after two assaults and a robbery in Hull

A PILLION rider on a motorbike which crashed into a car in Hull following two assaults and a robbery in the city yesterday has died.

The 25-year-old passenger and the driver, 29, were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary after a crash with a Honda Jazz car on Calvert Lane in Hull. The 25-year-old died last night. The 72-year-old driver was uninjured.

The 29-year-old is seriously injured and remains at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The crash just before 11am followed a series of incidents which began with an assault of a 40-year-old man in Hedon Road, reported to police at 8.34am. The victim sustained minor injuries to his eyes after being sprayed with a substance.

It was followed by the serious assault of a 26-year-old man in North Hull, reported to police at 9.09am. He sustained head injuries. The final incident was at a newagents on Anlaby Road, where a 57-year-old female member of staff sustained minor injuries to her eyes. She had also been sprayed.

Police patrols, the police helicopter and CCTV operators were looking for the men when the accident happened.

A police spokesman said: “The men on the motorcycle were not pursued. The motorcycle turned onto Calvert Lane and saw a police vehicle in the area and attempted to avoid it by turning onto the footpath before returning onto the road and colliding with an on-coming car.”

They have referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
