Humberside Police officers were on the scene within half an hour of a 999 call, with a pathologist and a coastguard team also attending

The dog walker, who asked not to be named, said he was shaking with shock after making the grim discovery on the isolated stretch around three miles from Aldbrough.

He said: "I realised straightaway it was a body which had been washed onto the beach, and seemed to have been in the water for some time.

"There's no path down to the beach but I showed the two police officers the way I use down the cliffs, which isn't an obvious route."

Humberside Police said: "We are investigating the circumstances after a body was sadly discovered on the beach at Grimston.

"We were called at 9.40am and are now working to discover the identity of the deceased.

"At this stage we are unable to confirm any further details."

The body is not thought to be connected to the United States Air Force aircraft ditching off the coast of Flamborough Head this morning. A F-15 fighter jet flying in formation crashed while on a routine exercise and the pilot remains missing. A major search operation is under way involving Humber Coastguard and RNLI crews from Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby.
