Body-in-river inquiry

A MAN whose body was found in a river is thought to have been the victim of an assault, police said.

The body of Polish national Jan Pawel Stochnialek, 28, was recovered from the South Forty Foot Drain in Boston, Lincolnshire, on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said early indications suggest Mr Stochnialek, of Albert Street in Boston, suffered an assault and detectives have launched a murder inquiry.

Det Chief Insp Matt Hewson, said: “We are very keen to hear from anyone who knew Jan Pawel or who has knowledge of his whereabouts from Christmas Eve onwards. Although his body was found in the waterway close to the town centre, it is possible that it entered the water some distance up-river.”
