Bradford mum charged with murdering toddler daughter

A 37-year-old woman has appeared before a Crown Court judge today after being charged with murder of her young daughter.

Gundeep Sanghera was brought into Bradford Crown Court in a wheelchair after being critically injured during an incident in February which saw her 22-month-old daughter Amrita Kaur fall to her death from an upstairs window at their home in the city.

Sanghera, who also fell from the window, was found in the garden of the house on Delamere Street, Marshfields, by a window cleaner.

Sanghera, who is currently on bail with a condition that she resides at a hospital unit, appeared before the Recorder of Bradford Judge Roger Thomas QC for a brief preliminary hearing and was told that a plea and case management hearing would take place on February 23.

A trial, which could last up to seven days, has been fixed for June 15 next year.

Earlier this week Mark Langan, senior crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service Yorkshire and Humberside, said:”The Crown Prosecution Service has been working closely with West Yorkshire Police in connection with this case.

“Having carefully considered all the evidence presented to us we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence to charge Gundeep Sanghera with the murder of Amrita Kaur and that it is in the public interest to do so.”
