"The 19-year-old was found deceased in a building on Manchester Road.

"His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"At this time, the man’s death is being treated as unexplained."

Hallam Tower boasted top-quality restaurants and bars, a ballroom, a heated swimming pool and three-and-a half acres of gardens in its heyday but closed its doors in 2004 and was put up for sale nine years later, standing empty and derelict since.

In 2015 the hotel was sold and was set to be replaced with luxury apartments.
