Captured on CCTV: Car that brought gun to Leeds West Indian Centre

POLICE investigating a shooting in Leeds which left a man with life-changing injuries today released CCTV of the car believed to have brought the gun to the scene.

Detectives say the occupants could be crucial in identifying the gunman, who shot a 35-year-old Sheffield man after he boarded a homeward bound coach in Chapeltown, Leeds, at 5am on Saturday April 4 this year.

The victim was among a group from Sheffield who visited the West Indian Centre in Laycock Place, Chapeltown.

Problems developed between the group and others and fighting spilled onto the street as the Sheffield party headed towards their coach.

With some back on the coach, a mystery assailant climbed onto the vehicle and fired a single shot which hit the 35-year-old before disappearing.

Det Supt Chris Thompson of West Yorkshire Police said the occupants of a small black hatchback collected and brought the gun in the minutes before the shooting.

The CCTV footage shows the car travelling north at speed up Chapeltown Road before turning into Grange Avenue at 4.48am. A minute later the car drives back down Chapeltown Road on the wrong side.
