Car parks at these Yorkshire tourist hotspots have been closed today

With warm and sunny weather predicted today, councils across Yorkshire have been forced to take direct action to prevent people breaking lockdown restrictions.

Bradford Council confirmed they have shut car parks at Ilkley Moor, Cliffe Castle and Haworth to deter visitors, and have also blocked off access to some on-street parking areas.

They have also received complaints from farmers that vehicles have been parked across gates and in passing places.

The Hirst Wood car park in Saltaire is shut but residents have complained about tourists parking on the streets of the village.

Council car parks in Scarborough and Whitby are closed today and people have been advised to stay away from the coast.

The Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Park authorities, the National Trust and Forestry England have all closed their managed car parks.

Yorkshire Water have closed car parks at their reservoirs, including Swinsty and Fewston, near Harrogate.

Leeds City Council have closed car parks at their public parks.

Under lockdown restrictions, any journey made by vehicle must be for essential reasons such as buying food, medicine or assisting a vulnerable person. Do not drive outside of your local area to exercise elsewhere.
