A man is in hospital with potentially life threatening injuries after being assaulted in Hull.

The 54-year-old was set up by two men who approached him outside the Merchant Navy Club in Ferensway at around 5.45pm on Monday.

Humberside Police today said he was continuing to be treated at Hull Royal Infirmary.

A bag containing two board games was stolen from the man following the assault.

Officers arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and short time later. He has been released on police bail to a date next month, pending further enquiries.

However, the second man is yet to be identified.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Curtis said: “This was an isolated incident. Luckily incidents of this kind are rare and we don’t believe there is any threat to the wider public.

“However, we are keen to track down this man so that we can eliminate him from our enquiries.

“He is described as white, tall, aged in his twenties or thirties, wearing a beige jacket, a long sleeved light coloured top with horizontal stripes and a dark coloured baseball cap.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log number 394 of January 9.
