CCTV: Dramatic moment an arsonist sets car alight

POLICE investigating an alleged arson in Rotherham today released CCTV footage of the incident.

The video, captured on November q5 last year, shows a man approaching a blue Vauxhall Meriva on Norwood Crescent, Kiveton Park, Rotherham.


He approaches the vehicle from the front, sprays an unknown accelerant over the windscreen and bonnet of the car and lights it. The vehicle sets alight immediately and the man runs away in the direction he came from.

The owner of the vehicle is a 71-year-old man from Norwood Crescent, Kiveton Park.

The alleged arsonist is described as white, stocky build with fair brown hair.

Police are also investigating a previous alleged arson on a silver Vauxhall Safira last September, belonging to the same victim.

A further arson last July the home of the victim’s daughter is also being investigated.

Detectives are treating all of the above incidents as linked and are appealing to the public to help them with their enquiries.
