Child rapist sentenced

A child rapist who used handcuffs and drugs to stop his young victims, in areas including Sheffield, from resisting or escaping him has been given an indeterminate sentence for public protection.

Leroy James, 40, attacked four girls aged as young as nine over a 10-year period in three cities, Bristol, Sheffield and Nottingham.

One of his “vulnerable” victims miscarried his child after being raped several times, including at a New Year’s Eve party.

James, who continues to deny any wrongdoing, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court after being found guilty of 16 sex offences, including eight counts of rape.

He had to be removed from the dock after angrily telling Judge Michael Longman: “Just sentence me, I don’t want to listen to any of this s***.”

Judge Longman, sentencing James, formerly of St Judes and Southmead, Bristol, said he believed the predatory paedophile posed “a serious risk” to the public.

Before he was sent to the cells he told James: “Your behaviour was manipulative, callous and at times brutal.”

He later added: “These four girls were vulnerable. All of them were damaged in some way. There can only be a substantial sentence of imprisonment.”
