The 59-year-old was held after searches at two houses 100 miles apart.

Detectives said at the time that the arrest did not mean the chef, who disappeared from her home in York in March 2009, had been found.

North Yorkshire Police officers searched the home of the suspect, who lives in half a mile from Miss Lawrence’s house.

It later emerged another house, in Hollywell Road, North Shields, Tyneside, was also being searched as part of the same investigation.

A force spokesman said: “Police cannot rule out the possibility of further arrests in the future as the review continues.”
