Community supports devastated family

FAMILY and friends of Casey Kearney, her father Anthony and her mother Kerry Day wore orange ties and scarves yesterday in tribute to the tragic teenager – just as they had at her funeral.

Hundreds of mourners attended St Wilfrid’s Church in Cantley, Doncaster, earlier this year to say goodbye to her, and other events were also held in her honour, including a fundraising walk and a vigil in Elmfield Park, where she was attacked by Hannah Bonser.

A tribute from Casey’s father Anthony was read out during her funeral service.

It said: “From the moment you were gone I knew life could never be the same again and the pain of losing you would be intense for the long time to come, if not forever.”

Less than two weeks after Casey was killed, hundreds of neighbours, friends and family hiked the five miles from Rossington, where she lived, to the scene of her stabbing

A fundraising concert in the Styrrup pub in Rossington was also held with Britain’s Got Talent finalists 2 Grand. Funds raised through both the walk and the benefit concert were given to the Kearney family.

Sallie Lax, 15, one half of 2 Grand, went to the same school as Casey. She and her grandfather, the other half of the group, sang the song Unforgettable in memory of the teenager.

Casey would have been 14 last Saturday.
