Couple steal elderly Rotherham woman's bankcard in distraction burglary

A 66-year-old Rotherham woman has had her bankcard stolen after reportedly being distracted by a couple asking for directions.

The incident occurred at around 3pm on May 3, when it is reported that an unknown couple approached the woman outside her home in Wood Close, Ravenfield.A woman, who is described as being around 5ft 2ins tall, in her mid-30s with olive skin and shoulder length black hair, asked the 66-year-old for directions to the motorway.The victim is understood to have invited the woman inside, who produced a map and placed it on the table over the victim’s handbag.The man, who is described as being white, around 5ft 8ins tall and clean shaven, then entered the house and joined the woman.The couple, who both spoke with foreign accents, are believed to have had a conversation with the 66-year-old before leaving.A short time later, she was contacted by her bank and informed that money had been withdrawn from her account. She checked her handbag and discovered her bankcard was missing.Police believe the couple may have been watching the victim while she was shopping in Bramley earlier that day, and want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area earlier this week.The woman is reported to have been wearing dark clothing and the man was reportedly wearing a light-coloured checked shirt.
