Couple’s wedding day crumbles after fight at reception ‘over a pork pie’

Police officers were called to the reported disturbance at a wedding at the Harold Club, on Low Moor, in Bradford.

The Yorkshire Post understands officers made three arrests following the incident and part of the historic venue, which was officially opened in June 1883, was closed to members of the public.

Members of West Yorkshire Police’s Dog Unit took to social networking website Twitter where they revealed that they had been called to a “large fight” at a wedding.

The tweet added: “All started over a pork pie apparently! #clubclosed #dayruined”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed a number of officers attended an incident at the Harold Club, on Low Moor, on Saturday at about 7.20pm.

He said three arrests were made, including two for assault and one for a public order matter.

He added: “The premises was closed to prevent further problems. Police left just after 8pm.”

The Harold Club was built by Gathorne Hardy, the Earl of Cranbrook, in memory of his fourth son Harold.

Harold came to Bradford in 1872 after graduating from University College Oxford and entered the family’s ironworks business.

He was well respected in the community but died in June 1881 of consumption.

According to the club’s 
website, Gathorne Hardy intended the premises to serve as “a working men’s club of the better sort”.
