Crews attend huge fire of corn silo at West Yorkshire processing plant

Crews attended the processing plant on Eastfield Lane, Castleford after a call shortly after 3pm on Wednesday.

This was a fire involving barley/corn which was smouldering within a silo, West Yorkshire Fire service said.

Fire crews damped down the barley to suppress the fire and assisted in decanting the barley from the silo.

The fire did not spread from the silo, it was reported.

Crews remained on the site until shortly before 2am on Thursday.

The incident was attended by the Technical Rescue Unit and a fire engine from Cleckheaton Fire Station as well as supporting fire engines.

No-one was injured during the incident.
