Cyclist dies after late night hit and run in North Yorkshire

A cyclist has died after he was involved in a hit and run near Barlow, Selby.

The man, 61, was hit by the car as he cycled on the A1041 Camblesforth Straight at around midnight on Sunday.

He suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle involved left the scene, but was stopped a short time later by police in the Selby area.

The driver was arrested in connection with the crash and remains in police custody.

Detectives investigating the fatal crash want to speak to anyone who was in the area between Camblesforth and Selby at the time of the collision or any witnesses who may have seen either a pedal cycle being ridden towards Selby or a silver car with significant damage to the windscreen being driven between the scene and Selby town centre.
