Detectives appeal for help following shooting

No one was hurt in the incident, but detectives say it could be linked to a previous incident in another part of the city.

Two men were seen on a motorbike riding along Samuel Close in Norfolk Park toward Samuel Road at around 6.40pm.

One of the men was reported to be holding a firearm and witnesses reported hearing three to four shots being fired shortly afterwards.

Officers attended the scene and carried out a detailed search of the area including house-to-house enquiries and reviewing CCTV.

A porch window at a property on Samuel Road was damaged.

Investigating officer Temporary Detective Inspector John Wheaton said: “We believe that the men on the bike were attempting to target a group of men in the street.

“We are also investigating the possibility that it is linked to previous firearms discharges in the Arbourthorne area.

“I can reassure residents that we are following a number of lines of enquiries and will continue to prioritise tackling firearms incidents across the force including through our current campaign which raises awareness about organised crime groups and armed criminality.

“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time or saw or heard anything suspicious to contact 101 quoting incident 1042 of July 22 2016.”

One of the men was described as white and the second was described as black.

Both were wearing grey hooded tops, dark trousers, bandanas covering their faces and white patterned crash helmets. The bike is described as a red motocross bike.

Since South Yorkshire Police began a weapons surrender on July 11, 35 items have been surrendered including seven shotguns and 300 bullets.
