THREE trees have been daubed with the numbers 666 in Harrogate woodland, prompting an appeal to parents from conservationists.

The scene, resembling one from a horror movie, was photographed in Harrow Hill.

It was discovered by Pinewoods Conservation Group volunteer Pat Inman, who walks in the woods between the Valley Gardens and RHS Harlow Carr a few times a week, picking up rubbish and tidying the area.

On her latest tidy-up she found that some of the western hemlock trees had been sprayed with blue paint on the trunks.

One of the Pinewoods benches had also been uprooted and moved into a den.

Ms Inman said: “Parents need to know what their children are getting up to and tell them to stop this behaviour.”
