Dramatic pictures show moment armed police point gun at man during West Yorkshire-wide firearms bust

Dramatic pictures show the moment West Yorkshire police arrested four men for firearms offences.

Suspected class A drugs, firearms, ammunition and a knife were seized by officers after a series of operations on Monday (May 18).

Two cars were stopped in the morning – one in Wakefield and one in Castleford, police said.

A pistol and ammunition was found in a Skoda stopped on Cannon Street (Castleford) and a knife found in a Golf stopped on Chantry Bridge.

Two men aged 35 and 23 were arrested from the Skoda on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Two men aged 43 and 29 were arrested from the Golf on suspicion of possession of a firearm and an offensive weapon.

A subsequent operation took place at a house on Bradford Road, Morley where a handgun and ammunition were found.

Suspected class A drugs were also found at the property.

A man, 51, was arrested on suspicion of Possession of a Firearm and possession with intent to supply controlled drugs.

Later on during the same day a 6th man aged 20 was arrested on suspicion of Possession of a Firearm and Possession with intent to supply controlled drugs.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Walker said: “Our enquiries into these seizures remain ongoing and the six men remain in police custody.

“Illegal firearms and drugs can cause considerable harm and concern in the communities of West Yorkshire and beyond - through Programme Precision we are working together with key partners to bring those responsible for serious and organised crime to justice.”
