Driver arrested after being stopped on M1 with around £400,000 in cash in car

A driver has been arrested after police discovered around £400,000 in cash in a car.

Derbyshire Road Policing Unit tweeted to say they had arrested the driver at around the South Yorkshire / Nottinghamshire border at junction 30 of the M1, for Sheffield and Worksop.

They said officers were acting on intelligence and arrested the driver on suspicion of money laundering.

The post said: "M1 J30. Intelligence led stop on this Volkswagen. Approximately £400,000 in cash on board. Driver arrested for money laundering."

The unit also posted pictures of the cash, which was wrapped up in Tesco carrier bags and holdalls.
