Drugs thrown into prisons

THREE people were arrested for trying to throw drugs over walls into Yorkshire prisons as part of an operation to tackle the smuggling of contraband.

The newly-created National Crime Agency joined forces with South Yorkshire Police to search prison cells and test for traces of drugs at Lindholme, Hatfield and Moorland prisons near Doncaster as well as at sites in Kent.

At the South Yorkshire jails, three people were arrested attempting to throw drugs over the walls into the prison, one for attempting to smuggle a number of mobile phones and two arrested for other offences. Four were caught with prohibited items.
