Eight arrests and large hauls of drugs and criminal cash seized as part of day of police raids in Rotherham

Police executed a number of warrants yesterday as part of Operation Leo.

Eight people were arrested in relation to proceeds of crime act offences, and police say they recovered “a large quantity of cash and controlled drugs”.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Berry, who was involved in the investigation, said: “Operation Leo has been specifically set up to address issues relating to illegal crime in Rotherham and plans have been put in place to take action against offenders who are engaging in it.

“As a force, South Yorkshire Police will continue to target organised crime and those benefiting from the proceeds of such crime which causes discontent within communities.

“I would like to thank all of the officers and teams who were involved in yesterday’s activity and work will now continue under the operation, to remove further threats and illegal activity.

“We are committed to keeping all of our residents and communities safe and I encourage anybody who may have information, with regard to criminal activity in their community, to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The eight people arrested, have since been bailed as police continue with their investigation.
