Eight weeks in jail for Leeds man who threatened to '˜eat the face' of Pc

Benjamin Jones, 22, of Selby Road, Whitkirk, was caught urinating against a wall near platform two at Manchester Piccadilly railway station on Saturday, January 30, this year.

He immediately turned abusive after being asked to stop by a member of station staff.

Matters then escalated when a British Transport Police officer intervened and attempted to remove him from the station.

Jones threatened to “knock out” the officer and “eat his face” before being arrested for a public order offence.

Investigating officer PC Lee Howard today said he hoped the jail sentence would serve as a warning to others.

PC Howard said: “Jones’ behaviour was completely unacceptable. This kind of vile, threatening behaviour will not be tolerated on the railway and, as demonstrated by the custodial sentence handed down, can be dealt with severely by the courts.”

Jones pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 1, but details of the case have only just been issued by British Transport Police.
