A woman in her 90s suffered a fractured shoulder when thieves stole a taxi while its driver was helping her to get inside.

Police are appealing for information after the black VW Passat taxi was stolen from the Asda car park in Rooley Lane, Bradford.

The taxi driver was helping the 94-year-old woman into the rear of the car when a man jumped in and drove the vehicle away.

The incident took place at around 3.05pm yesterday (Thursday).

The woman remains in hospital today in a stable condition.

The suspect is described as an Asian male with dark hair who was possibly wearing a hooded top.

Detective Inspector Ryan Bragg, of Bradford District CID, said: "This incident happened in a busy supermarket car park in broad daylight and I am certain there will have been people who witnessed what happened, or people who may have seen the suspect before he approached the vehicle.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a vehicle of similar description driving erratically after the incident."
