Elected police chiefs to get victims’ views

Crime victims in Yorkshire are being urged to come forward to ensure elected police commissioners are made aware of the services they need.

Victim Support wants to hear from witnesses or victims of sexual assault, hate crime, domestic abuse and anti-social behaviour.

Advocates employed by the charity will hold interviews and focus groups across the region in the next six weeks to learn more about the experiences of people affected by crime.

Yorkshire victims’ services advocate Martin Laux said: “We want to find out how people have been treated as a victim or witness by the police and criminal justice system and if they have found suitable services to support them through a difficult time in their lives.”

The findings will be included in reports aimed at raising awareness of the issues facing victims and witnesses in the run-up to the commissioner elections in November.

Victims must have experienced the crime within the last two years and must not be currently involved in criminal justice proceedings or a court case related to the offence.
