Father jailed over rape of his 10-year-old daughter

A FATHER who raped his 10-year-old daughter and made her pregnant has been jailed for nine years.

Leeds Crown Court heard yesterday the man initially bought a pregnancy test at a chemist’s in Leeds and returned a few minutes later asking if he knew where he could get a termination for his daughter.

He claimed not to know who the father was and was told he should go to his GP or health centre.

Eventually he did go to his doctor and when asked who the father was he said she had told him she had been raped by a man in a car on her way home from the mosque.

Neil Clark, prosecuting, told the court social services and the police were involved and the girl was then spoken to and confirmed his account.

But, after a termination was carried out, DNA checks revealed her father was responsible and, spoken to on her own, the girl confirmed he had raped her.

The man, now aged 33, who is not being named to protect his daughter’s identity, admitted rape.

Jailing him, the Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier QC said it was a gross breach of trust aggravated by the fact she became pregnant and he then sought to protect himself by persuading her to tell lies.

Mark Foley, representing the father, said he was suffering depression and stress at the time.
