Megan Roberts, a student at York St John University, was reported missing by her mother this morning after a friend raised concerns, having not heard from her following a night out in York city centre.

Megan, who is originally from Wetherby, has not been seen since around 2am on Thursday at the Popworld nightclub, on George Hudson Street, where she had gone gone out for the evening with friends.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police were today searching the local area and going through CCTV from the nightclub for sightings of the student.

A police spokeswoman said: “Nobody has heard from Megan since, which is very out of character and officers are very concerned for her safety.”

According to police, Megan is described as around 5ft 6in tall, of medium build with long dark brown hair.

When she was last seen she was wearing a cream knee length dress which had large brown and orange flowers on it and black plimsoll type shoes.

Officers are appealing for anyone who has seen Megan since the early hours of Thursday morning or knows where she is now, to contact them urgently.

They are also appealing to Megan herself to contact her friends, family or the police to let them know she is safe.

Inspector Andy Farrar of North Yorkshire Police said: “We are concerned. It is out of character for her not to be in contact with her family and friends and on social media.

“There has been no contact at all since Thursday morning so it is a good few days. At the moment is is purely a missing from home enquiry, there is nothing to suggest anything else.

“Police are giving her family support. Anyone in their position would be concerned in relation to what has happened to their daughter.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation. We are searching the local area in relation to the places where she lives and who she was out with. At the moment it is early stages.

“We are doing the preliminary investigation and speaking to the last people she saw.

“Local CCTV has been secured from the nightclub but also from local premises and council CCTV, we are going through that now trying to find any sightings of Megan at the relevant time.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass information to the Force Control Room.
