The man is alleged to have fired at a man at point blank range while a mum shielded her little boy.

The mum told how a man pulled a black pistol and an eight-inch knife from his trousers and subjected passengers to a frightening ordeal in broad daylight after getting off the bus.

The incident took place on Sunday on Hathersage Road, outside the Fox House pub, just after a man got off the 272 bus.

Today, South Yorkshire Police have released these first images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Temporary Detective Inspector Graham Stead said: “Our officers have been working hard all week to establish the circumstances surrounding this understandably quite distressing incident last weekend.

“From our enquiries so far, we believe that there may have been an incident that took place on a bus travelling through the local area. At the bus stop outside the pub, the suspect is believed to have got off the bus and reportedly fired a weapon.

“Thankfully nobody was injured, but that does not lessen the severity of this offence and we are determined to identify the person responsible.

“We believe the man pictured in the CCTV images holds information that could be incredibly useful for our investigation, so we’d like to hear from him or from anyone who recognises him.

“If you were on the bus last weekend, or travelling along Hathersage Road at the time of the incident, I’d also be keen to hear from you.”

“If you can help police with their investigation, please call 101 quoting incident number 508 of 1 May 2016.”
