First picture of 43-year-old Yorkshire man stabbed to death as man arrested

A 43-year-old man who died after reportedly being stabbed in Barnsley on Friday night has been named as Stephen Riley.

Mr Riley was found injured in Darley Avenue, Athersley at around 11pm, police said.

He was taken to hospital but sadly died shortly after midnight on Saturday (June 27).

A post mortem examination concluded that he died from a stab wound to his chest.

Detectives have today arrested a 37-year-old man from Barnsley on suspicion of murder in connection with Mr Riley's death.

He is currently in custody.

Mr Riley’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers and South Yorkshire Police 'remain keen to hear from anyone with information which could assist' their investigation.
