Five arrested over Sheffield crash that killed 21-year-old man and injured teenage girls

Five men have been arrested in connection with a fatal crash in Sheffield that killed a 21-year-old man and left a 13-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries.

The men, who are all in their 20s and from the Sheffield area, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a silver Vauxhall Astra collided with a tree and caught on fire on Ellesmere Road in Burngreave in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The driver, a 21-year-old Sheffield man who is yet to be named by police, died following the collision which happened at around 3.40am on Saturday October 3.

The front seat passenger, a 13-year-old girl, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Two female backseat passengers, aged 16 and 17, also suffered minor injuries.

The five men who have been arrested have all been bailed as enquiries continue.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident number 203 of October 3 2015.”
