Kelly Bossons was 12 weeks pregnant when Jordan was punched to the ground after a pub brawl in the market town of Retford, Nottinghamshire, in January. He died from a fractured skull.

The 25-year-old former Huddersfield Town youth trainee grew up in Menston, near Bradford, and was playing for Matlock Town at the time of his death.

Two men from Retford - Kai Denovan, 22, and Cameron Matthews, 21 - were both convicted of Jordan's manslaughter earlier this week and were sentenced today at Nottingham Crown Court. Denovan - who denied the charge - was jailed for 11 years and Matthews - who threw the fatal punch but pleaded guilty - got eight years in prison.

Their friend Sean Nicholson, 22, received a 14-month sentence for affray for his part in the violence.

Kelly is now heavily pregnant and faces raising her unborn child alone.

She talked of 'living her worst nightmare' in a victim impact statement read on her behalf.

She said: “The grief that comes with losing your partner is simply immeasurable. Jordan was the best person I have ever met, and I adore absolutely everything about him.

“Since having Jordan taken from me it feels like I have been ripped in half. I am living my worst nightmare that I can't wake up from.

“The week following Jordan’s funeral I found out I was 12 weeks pregnant. This is something we both wanted more than anything in the world, but I will never be able to share this news with him.

“Raising a child is not something I planned to do by myself, but Jordan’s killers have given me no other choice. They have not only ruined my life but have denied our unborn child the chance of ever getting to meet its father. All I hope is that they never get the chance to destroy another family the way they have destroyed mine.”

Speaking after the sentencing, Jordan’s mother, Mel Tait, said: “To lose Jordan in this way has left us all devastated and completely heartbroken. He was a beautiful soul who never saw the bad in anyone and always put others first. Nothing will ever be the same in our lives without him.

“The only consolation we can take from this, is that the people who killed Jordan have had their liberty taken away from them. They have to live with their actions and as a family we will never forgive them.

“We can only hope that it sends a clear message, that violence towards others is cruel, unacceptable and leaves a devastating effect on people lives.

“We’ve lost a son, a brother, a fiancé, a grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and a true friend to so many. But, more heartbreaking than anything, we’ve lost Jordan as a father to his unborn child. What a great daddy he would have been.”

Mr Sinnott was on a night out with two friends when he first came across Cameron Matthews, Kai Denovan and Sean Nicholson inside a pub.

There was a disagreement before Denovan punched Jordan twice. The two groups then went their separate ways, with Mr Jordan and his friends leaving the pub and heading towards Retford’s Market Place.

Denovan and Matthews also left the pub and walked towards the Market Place, with Nicholson following behind. Once Matthews and Denovan caught up with Jordan, Denovan again punched him before Matthews went on to punch him more than once, knocking him to the floor and causing fatal injuries.

Detective Constable Clare Easter of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Jordan’s family have been through a horrendous ordeal and my thoughts are very much with them today.

“No parent should lose a child to violence and I hope that this case will send a powerful message to anyone who thinks about attacking someone on a night out.

“It was important to make sure that those responsible for Jordan’s death were held accountable for their actions, which we have seen done today.

“Finally, I would like to pay tribute to Jordan’s loved ones. As we saw from the evidence, Jordan acted with respect and dignity on that fateful night. His family has done the same throughout this trial.”
