Force interviews for new deputy chief constable

The Yorkshire Post understands that four applicants, including two internal candidates, are in contention for the £135,000-a-year role at West Yorkshire Police.

West Yorkshire Police Authority is expected to name the successful applicant tomorrow. The job comes with a car and a “comprehensive benefits package”.

In its advert for the role, the authority said it was looking for a candidate “with the vision, values and versatility to provide further impetus and inspiration for even greater improvement” at the force.

The chosen officer would need “energy and conviction” for the role, it added, as well as “both fresh ideas and the confidence” to help the force progress in spite of having to save £98m over four years.

The successful applicant will replace David Crompton, who began his new role as South Yorkshire Chief Constable on April 2.

Mr Crompton had been deputy chief constable in West Yorkshire since 2008.
