Forensic officers in white suits were seen entering the crime scene – which is covered in scaffolding – in the hours after the incident.

A 31-year-old man was initially arrested and placed in custody. Yesterday, he was joined by two 22-year-old men and a 38-year-old man, who were arrested on suspicion of murder.

They are being held at police stations across West Yorkshire.

The investigation into his death is being led by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team. Anyone with information about the circumstances leading up to Mr Clark’s death is asked to contact 101, the new non-emergency number.

Beeston Labour councillor Angela Gabriel said: “I am absolutely shocked. It is a very quiet area.”
