Four held for attempted murder after woman abandoned in Yorkshire wood

FOUR people were arrested today on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found in a distressed state, abandoned in woodland in West Yorkshire.

Police said they believe the 27-year-old may have been taken from an address in Huddersfield sometime after 11pm last night and have appealed for anyone who saw a large cardboard box which officers have recovered from the woods.

A spokesman said the woman was spotted by a motorist in a dishevelled state near the Woodsome Hall Golf Club, Fenay Bridge, Huddersfield just after midnight.

She was suffering from minor injuries and has received some medical treatment.

Two men aged 25 and 49-years-old have been arrested along with a 17-year-old boy and a 46-year-old woman.

All four have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody, the spokesman said.

Detective Chief Inspector Lisa Griffin of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: “It is important we establish exactly what’s happened to this woman and how she came to be in the woodland.

“We believe from enquiries so far that she was taken from an address on Penistone Road after 11pm and transported to the woodland in a car.

“Penistone Road is quite a busy road, even late at night, and we believe some passing motorists may have seen some activity outside the house.

“Enquiries have also led us to be believe, that a large cardboard box recovered from the woodland, may have been visible at the time when the woman was being transported at both locations and it is crucial we hear from anyone who may have seen this box last night.”

Scenes of crime officers are carrying out forensic examinations in the woodland and at the address on Penistone Road. Officers are also conducting house to house inquiries in the area.

As part of the investigation two cars have also been recovered, the spokesman said.
