Peter Pumpkin was stolen from the Neat Marsh Road area of Preston at around 11.30pm on Saturday, July 17.

His devastated owners contacted Humberside Police who issued an urgent appeal to find him after it was revealed he required daily medication.

But sadly, the body of the much-loved 33-year-old pony was found in a dyke not far from his home on the evening of July 20.

A fundraising page was set up by Julie Kilkenny Hyam on behalf of The Shetland Pony Welfare Trust, with the aim of raising £1,000.

However the page has now topped £9,000 after just five days.

A post on the page said: "Thank you thank you thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far! Please keep sharing so we can raise as much as possible in Peter's memory for the Shetland Pony Welfare.

"We are completely overwhelmed with the response the fundraiser is having all over the country. It won’t bring gorgeous Peter back to his devastated owners, but it will help the charity to help lots of other ponies in need."

Humberside Police are asking for anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 16/72507/21.
