Fury as Yorkshire firm sells Breaking Bad ‘crystal meth’ sweets

A YORKSHIRE company has been criticised for selling sweets marketed as ‘blue sky meth crystals’.

No1 Gadget Store, which is based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, had been selling online a product labelled ‘Breaking Bad Heisenberg’s Blue Meth Rock Candy 98 per cent pure’.

Breaking Bad is an American crime drama about a high school chemistry teacher who turns to a life of producing and selling methamphetamine.

The company has today withdrawn the US-made sweets following criticism from Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman, a parent and a drugs counsellor.

A company spokesman said it did not wish to upset people and did not want bad publicity.

The company has sold around 100 bags through online sales and has around 30 bags left, he said.

He added: “I was quite surprised it caused a bit of a stir.

“We have taken the product down. We don’t want the publicity.”

The spokesman said the sweets had been imported from the USA. When they arrived in the UK, Customs officers had telephoned No1 Gadget Store to ask for information about what it was importing.

A spokesman for the firm said: “We would never intentionally glamorise or promote drug use to the general public, and we realise that our Candy product Breaking Bad Candy Crystals originally contained the words Crystal Meth in the description which could easily be misinterpreted by the consumer.

“We removed the word “Meth” from the description of our Candy Product, but since then, we have now pulled the product from any of our online platforms and do not sell it any more.”
