Gang jailed for armed £5,000 raid on jeweller

The gang stole jewellery worth around £50,000 from Rosh Jewellers on Huntriss Row, Scarborough, in December 2010. The haul, which has not been recovered, included a gold and diamond bracelet, gold earrings, necklaces, watches and diamond rings.

Jonathan Richard Pell, 21, of Nelson Street, Scarborough, who acted as the gang’s lookout, was sentenced to eight years in prison for robbery. He was found guilty after a trial at York Crown Court.

James Michael Millea, 33, from Speke, Liverpool, who pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to robbery, was sentenced to six years and six months’ imprisonment.

Timothy James Langford, of James Street, Scarborough, received a prison sentence of five years and four months’ after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing for his part in the robbery, acting as the getaway driver.

Millea also received an additional three-year sentence, to run consecutively, for conspiracy to supply Class C drugs.

North Yorkshire Police are still searching for a fourth member of the gang.

During the robbery, Millea and the outstanding suspect pushed a 58-year-old man, who was working alone in the shop, to the floor and threatened him with a knife. He suffered a broken shoulder after being assaulted by Millea.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Farthing, of Scarborough CID, said: “I welcome the sentences handed down by the court. They send a clear message to anyone committing violent and menacing crimes that they will be dealt with robustly and reflect the severity of the injuries suffered by the man who was working alone at the time of the robbery.

“I would urge anyone who can identify the fourth gang member to contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately. This was a nasty incident and the offender should face the consequences of their actions.”
