Girl, 18, escapes abduction attempt in Leeds street

A MAN tried to drag a teenager into his car in an early hours abduction attempt in Leeds.

The 18-year-old woman was walking along Roundhay Road in Harehills at about 4.10am on Sunday when she was grabbed by a man near to the junction with Elford Grove.

He tried to drag her towards a vehicle which was parked a few feet away but she screamed and managed to get away from him before raising the alarm with nearby residents.

The man is believed to have left the scene in a small dark-coloured hatchback car.

Detective Inspector Richard Holmes said: “This was clearly a very distressing incident for the victim and, given the circumstances, we have to assume that the man’s intentions were sinister.

“We are carrying out a wide range of enquiries to trace the suspect and it is vitally important that anyone who witnessed the incident or who knows who might have been involved contacts us immediately.”

The attacker was dark-skinned, about 5ft 7ins tall, slim to medium build, and aged in his mid 20s to early 30s. He had short, dark wavy hair, which was thinning and was wearing a dark jacket.
