Gun and axe wielding raiders attacked workers at Yorkshire garage

MASKED men armed with a gun and an axe attacked and injured two garage workers during an attempted robbery in Barnsley.

The pair walked into the garage in Spring Street in the Town End area of Barnsley and demanded cash as they threatened two men working there just before 8.30pm on Wednesday.

One of the suspects is said to have been carrying a gun and the other an axe. Neither of the weapons were used, however the garage workers were assaulted, suffering minor injuries.

Damage was also caused to two cars parked in the garage.

Detective Sergeant Pete Swift, said: “Thankfully, the victims were not seriously injured during the incident, however we are treating this as a priority and have a team of officers working to identify the men involved.

“I’d like to ask for anyone who saw what happened, or who knows who is responsible for this attack, to please come forward to help us with our enquiries.

“We are continuing to explore a number of lines of enquiry in relation to this incident and if you have any information you think could help, please call 101 quoting incident number 1088 of 22 February 2017.
