HGV driver arrested after man in 70s dies in North Yorkshire crash

A HGV driver has been arrested after a man in his 70s died in a crash in North Yorkshire.

It happened at Aysgarth, near Leyburn, at about 12.30pm on Thursday.

A pedestrian in his 70s was hit by a HGV on Church Bank.

The man suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

The driver of the HGV, a 28-year-old man from Cheshire East, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Following questioning he was released under investigation.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses and any information on the fatal crash.
