Hillsborough: Plea to help with legal costs
SOUTH Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner received assurances that legal funding was not available from police staff associations before agreeing to pay the costs of eight former officers taking part in the forthcoming Hillsborough inquests.
The Superintendents Association and the Chief Police Officers Staff Association have funded legal proceedings for members, who include those retired from service, but a spokesman for Shaun Wright’s office said the officers had indicated that route was not available to them.
Legal costs for the Hillsborough families are being funded by the Government.
