West Yorkshire Police confirmed today that the 24-year-old Scottish international, from Shipley, was charged on 27 January and will appear at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court on February 17.

He was quizzed by detectives last summer after voluntarily attending a police station in Wakefield when reports emerged that he had allegedly tried to approach a teenage girl online.

At that point, the prop was dropped from the club’s match against Huddersfield Giants after a piece appeared in the Mail on Sunday alleging that he sent messages to a teenager.

Hull KR said in a statement that the club had “been made aware by the player and his legal representative of charges brought against him by the West Yorkshire police”.

The statement said: “Adam continues to maintain his innocence and expects to be exonerated once the matter is before the courts.

“The matter is under constant review by the club and until such time as the situation changes the club will continue to support Adam and he will remain available for selection.

“Given there are now pending criminal proceedings before the court it would be wholly inappropriate for the club to comment further.”

Police said in a statement: “West Yorkshire Police can confirm that Adam Walker, aged 24, from Shipley, was charged on 27 January 2016 with two offences of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child.

“He will appear before Wakefield Magistrates in February.”
