Hull man jailed for six months for coughing in the face of PCSO

A man has jailed for six months for deliberately coughing in the face of a PCSO and assaulting another.

On Wednesday April 8, Jason Clark was seen swearing in the street at Pearson Park, Hull.

When approached by the officers the 39-year-old became abusive and aggressive, stating he had COVID-19.

He then coughed over one PCSO, before making a grab for the throat of his colleague.

Gerry Wareham, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Yorkshire and Humberside said: “Deliberately coughing in the face of a police officer in the current climate is both dangerous and despicable.

"This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable, especially when it is targeted at emergency workers who are carrying out their duties in the most challenging of circumstances.

“Clark has been sentenced to six months in prison. Hopefully this will serve as a warning to anyone else contemplating acting in such an anti-social manner.”

He was sentenced at Hull Magistrates Court on Tuesday to six months for the first incident involving the coughing, and four months for the second, with the jail terms to run concurrently.
