Hull schoolboy arrested and homes evacuated over ‘substances’ in house

Three houses have been evacuated and other residents on Kilnsea Grove are being told they can leave and go to the council-run Freedom Centre nearby.

Kilnsea Grove has been cordoned off.

A force spokesman said: “People are aware that people of Kilnsea Grove may have been inconvenienced in being asked to leave their properties and to remain indoors however this is in order for police to ensure that their safety is not compromised whilst the investigation continues.”

A 15-year-old boy, a 49-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man who were arrested on suspicion of possessing explosive substances for unlawful purpose have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Last night police confirmed residents of all but three properties had been allowed to return to their homes.

Experts had recovered “substances” from the address, which were made safe and then seized as evidence. No one was injured.

Detective Inspector Jason Gourley from Hull’s CID Team said: “We appreciate that many people of Kilnsea Grove would have been inconvenienced when they were asked to evacuate their homes, so we would like to thank them for their patience, whilst we conducted enquiries and made the area safe for them to return.

“The evacuation was necessary in order to ensure every local resident was safe during the investigation, which was our top priority.

“I would like to reassure members of the public that we believe this is an isolated incident and we don’t believe this incident is connected to any terrorist organisations.”
