Hungry Pc in illegal parking inquiry

A police officer is facing disciplinary action after being photographed buying fish and chips while his van was parked outside the shop on a double yellow line.

A passer-by caught the uniformed constable in his high-visibility vest and helmet at the counter of Webster’s fish and chip shop in Northgate, Baildon, near Bradford.

His police van was pictured outside the shop straddling the double yellow line with two wheels on the pavement.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “It is an offence to park on double yellow lines for all motorists including police officers when they are not on emergency business.

“This matter will now be dealt with through internal disciplinary procedures.”

The photographer, who has asked not to be named, sent the picture to a newspaper “as an example of how police abuse their position and as a result lose the confidence of the community”.
