Ilkley: Woman attacked as she waits in car for husband

A WOMAN was attacked by a robber as she waited in her car for her husband in a West Yorkshire village.

Police said the Asian woman was sitting in the vehicle on Main Street in Burley in Wharfedale, near Ilkley, on Friday evening when a man opened the passenger door.

She tried to stop him as he attempted to steal two mobile phones.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The woman was punched and kicked in a struggle with the offender, who then ran off, chased by the woman’s husband and another man.”

The robber, who got away with the phones, was white, about 5ft 8 ins tall, slim and thought to be in his thirties. He was wearing a hooded top and was seen getting into a silver Ford Focus with a partial registration of YF54, which drove off towards Ilkley.

Det Insp Richard Partis of Airedale and North Bradford CID, said: “This attack left a young woman very shaken and we would like the man who helped to chase the suspect to come forward, as he might have valuable information which could help us to trace him.”
