Investigation launched after Barnsley man stabbed to death

Officers were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley, Barnsley at 11.08pm on Friday night to reports that a man had been stabbed.

The 43-year-old was taken to hospital.

However, he sadly died shortly after midnight, police confirmed.

An investigation has now been launched.

The man's family are being supported by specialist officers, police said.

South Yorkshire Police said: An investigation is now underway and the man’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.

"We are urging anyone with any information about the man’s death to contact us.

"Please call 101 and quote incident number 1227 of 26 June."
